From here to your website.
All you need is a place to paste a little HTML.
Find your water.
Open the chart builder and search for a river, monitoring location, or USGS station number. The station panel identifies the location and tells you which measurements it reports.
Make yourself at home.
Choose discharge, water temperature, or gage height. Set the default range, choose a full or compact layout, and pick a theme and accent. The preview is your actual widget.
Water temperature isn’t available at every station. An unavailable measurement will be labeled clearly. Choose an accent with enough contrast against your widget background.
Copy, paste, publish.
Click Copy code and paste the complete snippet into a Custom HTML or Embed block. Use the full width of your container and include the complete snippet so the chart can adjust its height for mobile screens and expanded measurement data.
WordPress
Add a Custom HTML block in the block editor. Paste the iframe code, preview, then update your page. Your account needs permission to publish iframe HTML.
Squarespace
Add a Code block, choose HTML, and paste the code. Custom code and iframe support depend on your site plan. View the published page to test it.
Wix
Choose Embed Code → Embed HTML. Paste the snippet, size the embed container to fit the chart, and check both desktop and mobile layouts.
A few things worth knowing.
How often does the chart update?
The widget checks for new data every five minutes while visible. USGS sensors report at their own intervals, and readings can arrive late. Each measurement shows its actual timestamp in the station’s timezone. A reading older than three hours is marked delayed.
What do the trends mean?
Trends compare the latest recent reading with an observation nearest to 24 hours earlier, within one hour. Discharge and gage height are stable when the absolute percentage change is below 1%. Temperature is stable when the change is under 0.5°F. Temperature percentage changes aren’t displayed because they depend on the chosen scale. If there isn’t enough data, no trend is calculated.
Do I need to link back to Buggin?
No. You can add an optional visible “Charts by Buggin” link. Source attribution to USGS remains in the chart.
Why is my chart empty?
Try a different measurement or a longer time range. A monitoring location may be inactive or may not report that parameter. When USGS is unavailable, the chart displays a retry button. No substitute measurements are generated.
Is this a fishing forecast?
These are measured river conditions, with transparent changes over time. They don’t predict fishing success or tell you whether conditions are safe.
